Creating pieces that celebrate queer joy seemed so radical to me. I never made anything for the pure enjoyment of my queerness. And then after seeing a queer art show, I imagined the colors and the playfulness and I cried. 🌈
This MATAPANG design gets a brand new life with rainbow fringe, using upcycled scraps of woven textiles from the Philippines. It is bold. It is liberated. It is joyful!
MATAPANG is usually defined as strong, bold. And if you check google, it is usually associated with masculinity. This new design explores what it is to be strong and… for any body, any expression, all fluidity!
