Dayang (diwata, or spirit) Makiling (mountain in Laguna, Philippines, also meaning “crooked” or “bent”) is a beautiful forest goddess in Philippine mythology. Stories claim she provided ginger that turned to gold for mothers with ill children, and that she is the protector of the mountain and forest surrounding her, capturing travelers who misuse and litter her domain. 🌿
